Order your repeat prescription online
Need to request a repeat prescription? It’s simple and convenient! You can order your repeat prescription online through our secure patient portal, via the NHS app, or by contacting the surgery directly. If you prefer, you can also visit us in person or call to make your request. Please allow up to 48 hours for us to process your prescription before collecting it or having it sent to your chosen pharmacy. For any questions or assistance, our team is here to help.

We offer a number of ways in which you can order a repeat prescription. Please note that we no longer take repeat prescription requests over the telephone, nor can we accept requests from a pharmacy on your behalf.
Methods to request a repeat prescription are:
- Online repeat prescription ordering via the link at the top of this page.
- Write a note including your name, DOB and address along with details of the medication(s) you require and post the request in one of the repeat prescription post boxes situated on the pedestrian gate and within the porch area of the main entrance to the building
- Retain the right hand side of the prescription and tick the medication(s) that you require and post the request in one of the repeat prescription post boxes situated on the pedestrian gate and within the porch area of the main entrance to the building.
- Email the practice at mghccg.fieldheadmeds@nhs.net including your name, DOB, address and details of the medication(s) you require.
- Visit the surgery and speak to the receptionist at the desk.
We kindly request that you allow 48 hours from day of your request for your prescription to be ready for collection.
For requests made on a Friday, please allow until the following Tuesday for collection.
A repeat prescription is a medication that your clinician has authorised to be supplied for a certain period of time on a regular basis without needing to be seen each time.
Review dates will be scheduled and to continue to receive the medication on repeat prescription it is important that you attend for your medication reviews.
On occasion you will find that a certain repeat item has not been dispensed and this maybe because your review is due. On such occasions only the clinician or pharmacist will be able to authorise the item, as a one off and until your review has been completed.
The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS service. It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the place you choose to get your medicines or appliances from.
If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, your GP will send it electronically to the place you choose, saving you time.
You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.
You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as there will be time for your repeat prescriptions to be ready before you arrive.
Yes, if you have a stable condition and you:
- don’t want to go to your GP practice every time to collect your repeat prescription.
- collect your medicines from the same place most of the time or use a prescription collection service now.
It may not be if you:
- don’t get prescriptions very often.
- pick up your medicines from different places.
You need to choose a place for your GP practice to electronically send your prescription to. This is called nomination. You can choose:
- a pharmacy. a dispensing appliance contractor (if you use one).
- your dispensing GP practice (if you are eligible).
Ask any pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS or your GP practice to add your nomination for you. You don’t need a computer to do this.
Yes you can. If you don’t want your prescription to be sent electronically tell your GP. If you want to change or cancel your nomination speak to any pharmacist or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS, or your GP practice. Tell them before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place.
Yes. Your electronic prescription will be seen by the same people in GP practices, pharmacies and NHS prescription payment and fraud agencies that see your paper prescription now. Sometimes dispensers may see that you have nominated another dispenser. For example, if you forget who you have nominated and ask them to check or, if you have nominated more than one dispenser. Dispensers will also see all the items on your reorder slip if you are on repeat prescriptions.

Medications prescribed on acute prescriptions are usually to treat a problem that has just occurred i.e. a sore throat, bad cough etc. They are usually only prescribed whilst in consultation with the clinician and are normally prescribed as a ‘one-off’ and not to be repeated again and again.
If you require a further dose of a medication that has been issued on an acute prescription, it is likely that you be asked to see the clinician in an appointment prior to this being re-prescribed. Please contact reception to make an appointment.
An acute prescription can be issued via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) or on a paper prescription.
Patients can choose a pharmacy that they wish to nominate as their preferred pharmacy for use with the Electronic Prescription Service.
Golcar Delivery Pharmacy (GDP) 01484 646868 offers a free collection and delivery service for your medications, please ask staff for further details. GDP is owned in partnership by Pharmacists and Dr Ahmed of Fieldhead Surgery.

Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
- those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
- those who are age exempt
- those with certain medical conditions

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.90
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £114.50
- 3-month PPC: £32.05
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
